Explain, try and check

Noa read how to classify leaves. The text feels familiar, but can Noa use the idea on a new example? Let us distinguish recognizing an explanation from applying it.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

After reading an example, try explaining the idea in your own words, drawings or communication tools. Help remains allowed; the attempt reveals what makes sense and what needs support.

  2. 2

Noa sorts shapes by their number of points. A rounded shape ended up in the pointed group. Comparing the rule with this case locates the error; rereading everything without looking at the case may hide the uncertainty.

  3. 3

After correcting it, try another shape. At another time, revisit with a different example. There is no requirement to get it right first time: explaining a correction is part of learning.

YOUR MISSION

Check understanding through an attempt and use an error to choose what to study next.

Discovery workshop

Explain, try and check

Noa wants to check a classification rule, rather than just remember how the page looks.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

Which evidence better shows whether Noa can apply the rule?

I need a hint

Recognizing the material does not demonstrate application. Trying a new example reveals the reasoning and creates a concrete feedback opportunity.
