Change one thing at a time

Your robot moves slowly. You change the battery and wheels at once; it improves. But which change helped?

Learning paths6 min

Let's discover together

  1. 1

Start with a small question: “Which battery makes this robot cross the track faster?” A good question points to what will be measured.

  2. 2

In this test, the battery is the change being investigated. Keeping the robot, wheels, track and distance the same avoids mixing explanations.

  3. 3

Record results and repeat. A single run can be affected by a slipping wheel or a late timer.

YOUR MISSION

Build a test that compares two batteries while keeping other conditions the same.

Now it's your turn

Plan the experiment

Question: which battery, A or B, reduces the time to cross the same track?
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

Does changing the battery and wheels together answer our question well?

I need a hint

Two simultaneous changes leave two possible explanations.

Take it with you

Imagine comparing two pencils for drawing. What would you keep the same? What would “better” mean in that test?
