Questions that open paths · Lesson 02 / 06

What we saw, what we understood

The club records, “Lia used the tablet for ten minutes.” Someone adds, “So she does not care about others.” Did that second sentence come from the clock or from an interpretation?

Let's discover together

  1. 1

In this invented example, the ten-minute record is a given in the story. Outside it, we would also check how the measurement was made. A record can be corrected if it is wrong.

  2. 2

Saying Lia does not care attributes an intention. She might not know the agreement, might be trying to save the file or might have another reason. These are possibilities, not new certainties. We need to listen before concluding.

  3. 3

“Each person should have a turn” proposes how to act. It is a claim about what would be appropriate, not a clock reading. We can discuss the rule and its reasons without pretending it has already been observed.

  4. 4

Facts, interpretations and values can appear in the same conversation. Separating them helps us ask: what do we know, what are we assuming and what are we defending? This does not mean facts are merely tastes.

YOUR MISSION

Separate a record, an interpretation of intention and a proposed rule, without treating an interpretation as proof.

A moment to understand

The clock showed ten minutes. What can we conclude from that?

I need a hint

A duration does not reveal what someone intended by itself. Keep the conclusion within what the information supports.

Take it with you

Write three statements by invented characters: a record, an interpretation and a proposal. Add a question that would help check the interpretation. Avoid using a personal conflict.
