Computational thinking: from idea to plan · Lesson 03 / 07

An order that makes sense

Having the right actions is not enough: delivering a kit before assembling it does not solve the mission. Now we will organize an algorithm.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

An algorithm describes precise instructions for solving a task. It can use words, drawings or code; it does not have to start in a programming language.

  2. 2

In this exercise we start with an empty table. Gathering brings the materials; packing assembles the kit; checking verifies it contains a map and pencil; delivery completes the order.

  3. 3

Each action changes the state: the situation at that moment. Before packing, materials are gathered; after packing, we have a kit that still needs checking.

  4. 4

Use the arrows to rearrange the actions. Read the plan from top to bottom as if another person followed every instruction exactly. You do not need to drag the cards.

✦
YOUR MISSION

Order four actions according to their dependencies and follow the result step by step.

Now it's your turn

An order that makes sense

Initial table: empty. Goal: deliver an assembled and checked kit. Move cards with ↑ and ↓.
  1. Deliver the kit
  2. Gather a map and pencil
  3. Check the contents
  4. Put the materials in the kit
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

Why does checking come after packing in this exercise?

I need a hint

Which action creates what the next one needs? First materials, then a kit, then a check.

Take it with you

Write four instructions for drawing a simple shape. Ask someone to follow them without guessing your intention, or follow them yourself after a break. Where was more precision needed?
