Computational thinking: from idea to plan · Lesson 04 / 07

If it rains, the plan changes

In the workshop, each kit is now assembled with its materials. A new rule requires extra protection only in rainy scenarios. How can we write a clear decision?

Let's discover together

  1. 1

A condition is a question with a true or false result: “is there rain in this scenario?”. If true, we protect the assembled kit.

  2. 2

If the condition is false, we do not add extra protection. Delivery comes after the decision and happens in both cases, provided the kit is ready.

  3. 3

“Always protect” and “protect if it rains” are different rules. Our goal also avoids unnecessary protection on dry days. These are rules of a fictional model, not real packing instructions.

✦
YOUR MISSION

Apply a true or false condition and distinguish a conditional action from an action that always happens.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

If it rains, the plan changes

Run this mentally: pack → if it rains, protect → deliver. Compare both scenarios.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

Where should delivery go?

I need a hint

Follow the whole path in both cases. Protection changes, not whether delivery happens.

Take it with you

Invent an “if… then…” rule for a paper game. Show a case where the condition is true and one where it is false. State what happens afterward in both.
