Read beyond the crop

An image shows only robot B’s best race. A report keeps every race. What information do we need before repeating a conclusion?

Let's discover together

  1. 1

A source is where information comes from. Knowing who recorded the data and how lets us trace a claim back to its evidence.

  2. 2

A crop can be true and still hide context. Showing only the fastest race does not reveal whether the others were slow or the track changed.

  3. 3

Look for the complete record, conditions and limitations. A professional appearance or many likes does not replace that check.

  4. 4

Open another reliable source to check who published the first and where the claim came from. Two pages repeating the same story are not two independent measurements. Record the date, origin and the passage that actually supports the conclusion.

Two records, one investigation

Shared image: “B: 8 s, champion!” Complete report, same track: round 1 — A: 10 s, B: 8 s; round 2 — A: 10 s, B: 14 s. Fewer seconds means faster.

Take it with you

When you find a convincing conclusion, look for the supporting record. If it is unavailable, keep the question without spreading the claim as a certainty.
