Digital life: files, tools and care · Lesson 01 / 06

Tools for a small expedition

Lumi is making a map of an imaginary island. There is a phone, a browser and an editor. Before tapping everything, let us discover what each tool does, without installing anything.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

The device is the physical object: phone, tablet or computer. The operating system manages resources and lets you open applications. One device can support writing, drawing and learning.

  2. 2

A browser opens websites and web applications. The Rullst Academy is a website you use in it; installing it as a PWA changes how you open the site, but does not make all its content available offline.

  3. 3

An editor is a tool for changing content. A file is something you can save and open, such as map.txt. Closing an editor is not the same as deleting a saved file.

  4. 4

Practise here with fictional choices. Later, if you wish, identify a tool and an example file on your device. Do not send photos, personal documents or other people’s information.

YOUR MISSION

Distinguish a device, operating system, application and file; choose a tool for a task.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

Choose by purpose

Lumi needs to open the Rullst Academy and then edit a local text.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

The editor closed after Lumi saved. What is a sensible first step?

I need a hint

Think about the saved file, not just the window that disappeared.

Loading your journey…

Take it with you

Explain to someone: how do a notebook, a pencil and the place you store the notebook differ? Where does that comparison help explain files, and where does it stop working?

Show me the Rust behind it

This part is optional. You don't need to memorize the code to continue.

device → operating system → application
editor → mapa.txt

My files and GitHub

Every lesson can become your own record: code, notes or a practice plan. Saving a file to GitHub is optional and does not change your XP.
