The test that found the stone

The plan seemed ready, but a test revealed an error right at the boundary. A mistake in the model is a chance to improve the rule.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

Write the expected result before testing. This lets you compare the intention with what happened.

  2. 2

The correct model rule stops at 20 cm or less. A version using “less than 20” misses the value exactly equal to 20.

  3. 3

After correcting a rule, repeat tests that already passed and include the one that exposed the error. Record results, including remaining failures.

✦
YOUR MISSION

Compare expected and observed results and choose tests covering the boundary and a missing reading.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

The test that found the stone

Report: at 19 cm, stopped; at 20 cm, moved; at 21 cm, moved. The missing-reading case has not been tested. Expected: stop at 20 cm or less and also when a reading is missing.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

After correcting it, what gives more confidence in the model?

I need a hint

One passing test does not automatically cover every case.
