Robotics: Tico’s garden · Lesson 03 / 06

Sense before acting

There is a stone in the garden. A sensor reading helps Tico choose between moving and stopping.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

In this teaching model, a distance greater than 20 cm allows one forward move. A distance less than or equal to 20 cm means stop.

  2. 2

If a reading is missing or invalid, Tico stops and requests a check. Not knowing the distance is not the same as having a clear path.

  3. 3

The number 20 is only for this exercise. A physical robot needs its own design and tests, considering speed, sensors and stopping distance.

  4. 4

Physical sensors have noise, delays and measurement limits. Repeating the exercise’s exact numbers does not validate a real robot. Before acting, a real project needs appropriate supervision and a way to stop movement; here we stay within simulation.

YOUR MISSION

Apply a distance rule, including its boundary value and a missing reading.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

Sense before acting

Model rule: valid reading above 20 cm → move forward once; 20 cm or less → stop; no valid reading → stop and check.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

After moving forward, what should happen next?

I need a hint

The environment and position may change after a move.

Take it with you

Create a table with readings 19, 20, 21 and “missing”. Record the expected action before checking the rule.
