Computational thinking: from idea to plan · Lesson 01 / 07

One mission, smaller parts

The Expedition Workshop prepares kits for an imaginary outing. “Organize everything” sounds huge. Let us turn that idea into parts we can explain and test.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

The goal says what we want to achieve: deliver one complete kit for each order. Before acting, we need to know how many orders there are.

  2. 2

Decomposition means dividing a problem into smaller parts: count orders, gather materials, assemble kits and check deliveries. A small task needs an observable result.

  3. 3

The parts connect. To gather materials, we need the number of orders. A task list does not mean every order of execution works.

  4. 4

A check compares the result with the goal: 3 kits were ordered; are all 3 complete and delivered? Computational thinking starts with clear questions, even without a computer.

Which breakdown helps solve the mission?

I need a hint

A breakdown helps when each part has a clear action and contributes to the goal.
