Observe before assuming

At the club, Alex did not reply to a message. Jo thought, “Alex does not care about the group.” The missing reply was observed; Alex’s intention is not yet clear.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

“I have not received a reply yet” describes what Jo could check. “Alex wants to disrupt things” assigns an intention. There may be another explanation: the message did not arrive, time was short or something prevented a reply.

  2. 2

A useful question seeks information: “Did you receive the plan? We need to decide by tomorrow.” It communicates the need without turning an assumption into an accusation. The deadline can be real even when the intention is unknown.

  3. 3

Separating fact and interpretation does not mean ignoring impacts or accepting any behavior. It helps discussion stay grounded in what is known. If a conversation is unsafe, seek support from someone trustworthy.

YOUR MISSION

Separate an observable event from an assumption about another person.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

Observe before assuming

Jo only knows a message was sent and no reply has arrived yet.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

What does Jo know from the available information?

I need a hint

The same event may have different causes. Checking the agreement and its impact helps more than asserting an intention without evidence.

Take it with you

Invent an everyday situation with two possible explanations. Write what was observed and a clarifying question. Do not use real names or conversations.
