Internet, web and networks I · Lesson 10 / 10

Mission: web observatory

Your challenge is to build an account another person can understand and check.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

In the workshop below, choose a path and a condition. Before simulating, predict how far the conversation will get. DNS, TLS and timings are teaching values; no request is sent to garden.example.

  2. 2

Compare /hello and /missing with an available path. Then keep /hello and select DNS failure, TLS warning or offline. One change at a time helps explain differences; the simulator does not detect your network state.

  3. 3

Record selected condition, request, last observed stage, status or its absence, hypothesis and next test. The copy button asks before replacing your text; copying does not publish, save to your account or grant XP.

  4. 4

Review your notes and download your edited Markdown. The ZIP provides an offline workshop and local HTTP lab with tests. GitHub is optional. You can now continue with Semantic HTML and accessibility using the link below.

Your investigation notebook

Read, predict and explain. Every lesson has Markdown notes to edit, download and optionally publish on GitHub. ZIPs contain starter material, not your browser edits.

Optional practice: HTTP on your computer

Extract the kit into a new folder. Use Python 3.11+; python on Windows, python3 on macOS/Ubuntu. Run server.py, open http://127.0.0.1:8765/hello and inspect Network. Ctrl+C stops it. This lab has no external DNS, TLS, accounts or publishing. README.md explains port conflicts and tests.

# Windows

# macOS / Ubuntu

Workshop: a page’s journey

Teaching simulation without network access. Choose a condition, predict and compare. This model neither measures nor diagnoses your connection. Paths use the reserved garden.example domain.

Before simulating: will there be an HTTP response? Which stage could stop the journey?

YOUR MISSION

Compare scenarios, distinguish evidence from hypotheses and plan a check.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

Observe before concluding

Graded case: /missing, connection available, DNS resolved and TLS validated. The response was HTTP 404.
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

A responsible report should…

I need a hint

Return to the evidence: what was observed and what is still unknown?

Loading your journey…

How can I tell what I learned?

Use the objectives and challenge below for reflection or a conversation with someone who can help. This is guided self-assessment: it sends no answers, awards no XP and does not automatically verify independence.

In Foundations, change an example, predict results, check a normal case and an error case, and explain your choices. If you need help, identify what to practice again.

Your transfer challenge

Create two accounts with different results and one question that helps compare them. Explain why one has an HTTP status and another might not.

Keep evidence: prediction, attempt, result, an original change and what you still cannot explain. Seek feedback when possible; if studying alone, return later without copying and compare attempts.

Try again another time

After a break, explain the idea without opening the solution and try a different example. Compare with your first attempt: what can you do independently, and where do you need a hint? You may write, speak or draw; choose a way to check the same idea. Record help received, including AI, and revisit the part you need. There is no universal deadline or extra XP for this record.

Completions and XP record Rullst Academy assessments. An introductory track can help everyday life and prepare further study; alone it does not prove complete mastery or professional readiness. Level indicates depth, not age.

Take it with you

Create two accounts with different results and one question that helps compare them. Explain why one has an HTTP status and another might not.

Every lesson can become your own record: code, notes or a practice plan. Saving a file to GitHub is optional and does not change your XP.
