Multifactor authentication combines different kinds of proof, such as a password and an authenticator app. Two passwords are still the same kind of factor.

Never share codes or approve sign-in requests you did not initiate. Multifactor authentication reduces risk but does not eliminate every scam.

Where a service supports them, learn about passkeys: cryptographic credentials tied to the site, used with device unlock or a security key. They resist fake login pages; typed codes can be captured by scams. Check recovery options and protect both the device and the account that syncs your passkeys.
