Rust: first sparks · Lesson 01 / 06

The first signal

A tiny space station is silent. Discover how a Rust program sends its first message to the terminal.

Let's discover together

  1. 1

    Rust is a programming language. We write instructions in a text file; the compiler checks and transforms that code into an executable program.

  2. 2

    In this program, fn main() marks the entry point. Curly braces { } surround the instructions. No need to memorize the symbols: look for the message in quotes.

  3. 3

    println! displays a line of text. Quotes delimit the message in the code; they do not appear in the output. Compare the two cards, then reveal the result.

✦
YOUR MISSION

Distinguish the code we write from the text a program displays.

Now it's your turn

Discovery workshop

Light up the terminal

Choose a card, read the code and predict the output before pressing Show result.
Mini experiment

Learning simulation: compare cards and check your predictions. The browser is not compiling Rust or starting a server.

fn main() { println!("Hello, cosmos!"); }
Build your answers and check when you are ready.
A moment to understand

What would you change to display another message?

I need a hint

Compare the quoted text on both cards. main remains the entry point.

Loading your journey…

Take it with you

Write a message for a fictional robot on paper. Circle only what should appear in the terminal, without using your real name.

Show me the Rust behind it

This part is optional. You don't need to memorize the code to continue.

fn main() { println!("Hello, cosmos!"); }

Every lesson can become your own record: code, notes or a practice plan. Saving a file to GitHub is optional and does not change your XP.
